Program Notes

After playing outside in the snow there is nothing like coming inside and warming up with a cup of hot chocolate. Enjoy the winter season this year by working on this fun two voice canon with your piano students. It is easy to learn and rewarding to play.

HOT P1

This arrangement is notated in a regular grand staff for piano solo.

HOT P2

This arrangement is the same as HOT P1, but is notated in a landscaped score with the voices of the canon highlighted in various colors. The leader starts as red and the turns blue. The follower picks up the red, then the blue, and so on. This version can be used in tandem with HOT P1 to highlight the formal elements of a canon. This setting is also much more difficult to read because it is set in a score. It is a great idea to play this as a duet. Let your student take one or two of the voices, the ostinato, the leader, or the follower. You fill the other roles. You can then switch which person / hand plays which part. Feel free to move them around to different registers as well.
