Program Notes

"Laddie with the Pladdie" (sometimes known by the name "The Rose Among The Heather") is a Scottish strathspey. An upbeat dance in 4/4 time much like a hornpipe, but a little slower with and with more articulated melodies. The strathspey is known for its exciting rhythms which most often consist of a dotted eighth note followed by a sixteenth note. Occasionally the reverse combination of a sixteenth note followed by a dotted eighth note is used. This is known at the "Scottish snap" and can be exaggerated for expression.
